What is Authentic Self Coaching?
Authentic - adjective: true to one's own personality, spirit, or character.
When we were children we had dreams and passions. as we grew older, our families, society, and even our own limiting beliefs caused us to start to doubt and question our dreams. In an attempt to keep ourselves safe, or to fit in, or gain acceptance, we moved away from our authentic selves. We told ourselves it was time to grow up, to be responsible, to make a living, or any other story that made our choices palatable. So many of us continue to make decisions that move us further away from our authentic selves. When this happens our emotions kick in as an attempt to wake us up to the fact we have moved away from whom we were meant to be. Our emotions are actually a guidance system that when we are able to read the message of the emotions, we are able to navigate our way back to feeling happy and content with our lives.
Authentic Self coaching is about the coach teaming up with you to help you to delve into your inner wisdom and find your way back to your natural state of being. Authentic Self coaching supports you in getting on your path and giving you a structure to work within to find your way back to being happy and living the life you were meant to live.
The coach meets the client as a partner not as an "expert" who is there to "fix" the client. As a team, they create what Kathleen Barry Ingram refers to as "the sacred space of possibility." The coach, utilizing strategies such as power questions, reframing, and clearing, assists the client in uncovering erroneous thought patterns and moving through blockages that are keeping them from reaching their desired goals. The coach and client work together to strategize and develop a plan of action, which will allow the client to start the journey of living an authentic life.
